Quest Vitamins Manufacturing and Quality

Commitment to quality, technological innovation and research, results in Quest placing a greater emphasis on the production process, right through from initial selection of raw materials to quality control of the finished product.

RAW MATERIALS - The first step in any manufacturing process is the selection of top quality raw materials. These are sourced from reputable, approved suppliers to specifications established by Quest. As soon as raw materials arrive at the Quest premises, they are quarantined, and not released for manufacture until passed by Quality Control.

DISPENSING - The next step in the manufacture of Quest supplements involves dispensing and blending. The computerised dispensary increases security by monitoring the correct selection and accurate weighing of ingredients, followed by a thorough mixing process to combine all the ingredients together.

TABLETTING - Tablet making although simple in concept, requires a great deal of skill to ensure a uniform product. Continuous monitoring during tabletting ensures that all critical parameters such as weight, size, hardness and disintegration are met.

TABLET COATING - Quest chooses to use a hypoallergenic coating that consists only of purified water and vegetable cellulose. Using the state-of-the- art "Accelacota" rotary coating pan, tablets are finely sprayed with the cellulose / water mix, resulting in a uniform coating. This protects the tablets from oxidation, improves the appearance of the tablets and makes them smooth and easy to swallow.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL - Careful environmental control within the manufacturing facility reduces the possibility of contamination. All production rooms, whether for blending, encapsulating, tabletting or coating, are separated from one another by closed doors and connecting corridors. Exhaust systems regularly exchange and filter the air in each room, providing clean air at a constant temperature and relative humidity.

SOFT GEL CAPSULES - Filling of liquid into soft gelatin capsules is a very specialized process, and thus we use a trusted company to manufacture all our soft gel formulations to our own specifications. Like Quest, they have a Department of Health license for the manufacture of pharmaceutical products. Finished capsules are inspected and tested by Quality Control for fill weight, disintegration time and ingredient identity.

SHELF LIFE STUDIES - As part of our ongoing quality control work, we retain bottles from each batch to use as reference samples. At any time during the shelf-life of a product, our laboratory can test a held product to ensure its nutrient content is still within label claim. Some samples of each product are also stored under controlled climatic conditions and tested periodically to prove stability over the stated shelf life.

QUALITY CONTROL - At Quest, quality is our foremost consideration, and to illustrate this commitment, we have a modern, fully equipped pharmaceutical laboratory. Before the manufacturing process can begin, all raw materials are carefully analysed for potency and purity. Our laboratory technicians use computer-controlled High Performance Liquid Chromatography HPLC) for determining the purity and quantity of vitamins in Quest formulations, and Gas Liquid Chromatography (GLC) for fatty acid analysis.

Another advanced instrument, the Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) Emission Spectrometer, allows analysis of the full spectrum of minerals, including all trace minerals, to a standard of accuracy previously unattainable. The Quest laboratory is also fully equipped to carry out tests such as disintegration, dissolution, hardness, moisture and heavy metal content as specified in the British, U.S. and European Pharmacopoeias. The end result of such careful monitoring is that we can actually guarantee that our supplements contain what their labels say they do!
