According to a report published in the Daily Mail (Tuesday, 26th October 2004), Quest Non-Dairy Acidophilus Plus was amongst the 'best capsule' products tested independently by Professor Hamilton-Miller.
A total of 39 products were tested, only "one third" of these were found to be satisfactory and Quest are delighted that yet again, independent testing of its products supports its claims of high quality products.
The findings of the report are to be published in a scientific journal "shortly". However, the Daily Mail article highlighted that "good bacteria can stimulate the immune system, help treat irritable bowel syndrome and play a role in the prevention of allergies and skin diseases". The article also stated that "it is important that probiotic products (such as Quest Non-Dairy Acidophilus Plus) contain effective good bacteria, can survive the gastric juices and are shelf stable before purchase".
Quest can guarantee to its customers that Non-Dairy Acidophilus Plus provides a combination of the three most prevelant good bacteria - L. acidophilus, L. casei casei and L.casei rhamnosus.
- These baceria survive in pH levels of 3 (which is a strong acidic environment).
- It is recommended the capsules are taken with or following food to provide a natural buffer from the acid. It is even better if users swallow with a drink of milk (dairy, soy, goat's or rice) to further enhance the utilisation of the bacteria.
- The product is shelf stable for 24 months, this means that it will maintain potency and viability of the good bacteria if the product were to be left on shelf for 24 months from date of manufacturer. It is recommended once the product is opened that it is refrigerated.
